Bron I sent you a PM by mistake, still trying to work out this new forum I havn't been on for awhile.
But I guess others will want to know the same thing: is the track the same as last years? it was pretty sweet and not overly long either.
Track is different from last
Track is different from last year, but there is no new trail built, just uses existing trails. As you can see from the map I've just posted, it pretty much follows the old 12hr track from a few years ago.
Gazebo?
What's with the track popping out to go by the gazebo?
Is there going to be a checkpoint there or something?
No it doesn't pop out by the
No it doesn't pop out by the gazeebo, the position of the gazeebo on the map isn't perfect, the track just runs along the ridge and down to the road.
beginner (ish) riders
I am just wondering how suitable this event is going to be for the beginner ish riders, we went out for a bash round it on the weekend and found we were lapping in around 40-45mins not counting the time spent lying on the ground, will this mean that we will have a bunch of pissed off pro's up our clackers for the entire lap or is it going to be a bit easier than that?
Wow
Beaut track guys, it is really great. Did a few laps on Sunday - very wet and muddy! It flows real nice, a bit of everything with the singles, log overs etc. Well done looking forward to the race.
Is the 6 hr a daylight event
or will I need to upgrade my lights?
6 Hr track/Race
Guys n girls,
Rode it on Sunday - well marked (I admit - I "Popped out" at the Gazebo as i thought thats where the track went) - the new take on the major down hill was fun - although there one jump/role over there that has a plank on the downhill side - might want to mark that jump - if you hit it wrong its off to rolly-polly land we go . . . . . . . . . .
Over all a great track . . with pleanty of passing lanes, some long runs, some tight singles and some great XC tech.
Thanks for your efforts so far see ya there . . . . . .

It will be run during the day, so no lights needed. Will either be a 9am or 10am start. I understand there are also plans to supply pasta meal afterward (part of entry fee), to be confirmed.
beginners more than welcome

There's no need for concern about being in the way or anything. You won't be pissing anyone off by taking part! We are expecting hundreds of riders, and the 'beginner ish' will far outnumber the 'pros'. And by definition, those guys know how to get around anything/one in their way :) When racing, the rider in front has right of way, and it is up to the faster rider to make their way past safely. Of course, the courteous thing to do if someone has caught you is to move to the side (you don't need to stop!!) when it's safe/convenient, so as not to intefere with their race too much. And let them know your intentions :)
Those laps times don't look so bad. The expectation is that the very fastest riders might be pulling low 30's.
maxfacta is right about
maxfacta is right about beginners. Our expectation is that this event will become bigger than the 12hr and end up as the biggest MTB event in WA. These sorts of team/enduro events attract such numbers primarily because they appeal to riders who don't normally race competitively, so you won't be alone.
sounds good
I guess I had better get another couple of practices in then and I will see you on the day
Cheers
Ditto
Funny you mention those 2 areas, Tom. Those were the 2 points that people on that chase ride on Sunday were cutting straight through at ( cheating :P )
And that second "bit" is where some people got lost from 'coz they thought the track kept going straight like in the 12 hr.
Cut 'em outtttt :)
Gazebo
I went for a cruise of the 6 hr course on Saturday and the track does pop down to the gazebo and then immediately hook left back up to the singletrack. Why not just continue along the singletrack on the ridge? It flows much better that way.
Also there is the point around 4.5km into the lap (about 1km after you ride under the tree on that sweet singletrack section). This is where the singletrack joins the long fireroad climb. Curently it is marked so you turn right and then do a quick jag left onto the fireroad. I don't know why you put this little chicane in there. I think it flows much better if you go straight from the singletrack and then have the gentle left turn onto the fireroad climb. Just my thoughts.
All in all though it is an excellent track and I do appreciate all the effort put in to making it very easy to follow. I am looking forward to the race.

hey guys, sort of done a couple of laps on sunday, and i gotta say that the track is totally awesome!
although the signage needs a bit of work. i was one of the riders that got lost on sunday. ended up on the old 12 hour tack.
other than that i really enjoyed the track, good on the people that put it together.

Team members wanted !
I'd like to ride in the race, but not up to the doing the full 6 hours solo, so is there anyone out there that would like make up a team.I'd be happy riding competetively or just for fun!
Team members around
myself and a mate are looking for a third to join us, as above we are not very competitive ourselves. give me a call on 0419 098 961 if you are interested.
Riders Choice 6hr
Well, after 3 weeks I finally got a full day off work today, so under threatening skies I used a big chunk of my valuable time and drove all the way down to Langford Park to see what this 6hr course that everyone is talking about is really like.
I spent the next 2 hours getting soaked by pouring rain as I bumped over every rock, slippery tree root and logover on the course. I rode through countless big puddles and covered myself and my bike from top to bottom in a thick coating of grit, dirt, mud and snot.
I drove all the way home only to have to clean and lube my bike, wash all my clothes and thoroughly clean my camelbak, shoes and everything else I had with me.
What an excellent day!! I haven't had so much fun since the last time I had that much fun!!!
Thanks to everyone that has put in the time and effort to link the trails up and mark the course so well. I am really looking forward to the race day on 12th. I thought last year was good but this year will be better. Great course - loved it (and so did the others there too!!)
6hr race
me and a mate done a couple of laps on saturday in the rain ,it was pretty cool!!!some of the log overs are a bit rough to hit at speed.i would have thought that they would be a bit smoother,to keep the flow?also i'm guessing that some riders don't realize that they hit the log overs too hard and dislodge the logs/dirt etc,i found out more than once not to take it for granted that they would be ok,ie.. two a.o.t stacks(lol) due to poor construction or hard riding.also when are the distance markers going in?this will help strategy and timing a lot more, all in all a good fast circuit...i did a 40.5 in the rain and sub 40 in the dry, goin down this coming weekend for a 38!!! don't laugh i'm on a reign 3,
6hr
Really nice track - the finish is awesome, really fast and flowing. It totally sucks you in to going another lap!

A FEW QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Thankyou Everyone for ALL of the Above Thoughts & Comments on the 6 Hour Track.
Firstly, there most definitly will be more bunting put up on the course the day before the race, the signage was done to give everyone a guide to the course to become familiar with it, sorry to those who missed a sign or two, believe me we spent a very long day putting up as many signs as we could for you all. Any tracks/roads not to be ridden through will be very clearly bunted off for the race, we can not do this before the event because other people use the area and it often gets ripped down very quickly.
Thankyou to those of you who advertised the cut through points on the track. Yes I am aware of them and anyone thinking of taking shortcuts will find a Stern Marshall taking down their number plate and getting themselves and their teams kicked out of the event, and if I catch anyone taking shortcuts out there you will be in even more danger!!! The point of the event is to ride the whole lap as many times as possible in 6 hours, there are sadly always ways to cheat in sport try to rise above that mentality.
The track does & will drop down to the Gazebo. This is because all parking is going to be at this end of Jarrahdale, in the gravel area behind the gazebo, so we thought there might be some people hanging out around this area, and it would be fun to drop down and say hello to a few spectators. I will be writing more about the parking issue very shortly but please note that DEC has laid down very strick parking regulations for us abide to, (ie not driving off the side of the road to park where ever you feel like it flattening all young trees and bushes under your car tyres!). If we do not respect how DEC want us to park and do not respect the valuable environment that is Jarrahdale then all future MTB events at Jarradale will be jeopardised, including future 12 hour events.
Yes there is a technical downhill section with a number and log-overs/jumps to navigate. This event is aimed at riders of a wide range of abilities and the event is for everyone, fast or slow, skilled or just starting out, we all had to start from the beginning. For those of you who are not adept at obstacles, then it is absolutley fine to dismount and step yourself & your bike around or over obstacles, just watch out for anyone coming through faster and let them go by. If you are doing all the obstacles at speed try not to destroy them totally, we all have to ride them for 6 hours, I will take another look at the section the day before the race and probably shovel in some more dirt to solidify them all a bit more for the day.
We will go through this at the race briefing but as previously stated this event is for EVERYONE, no one should feel intimidated out on the track, everyone can ride at a speed they feel comfortable at. For those who are going to ride the course at break neck speed then be courteous to everyone you overtake, it is not always easy to get out of the way straight away so when overtaking make sure the rider in front is aware of you before you overtake them by calling 'Rider!' in a friendly manner and you can also let them know if you are going to overtake on their left or right, then overtake at a time that is safe for both of you, if a slower rider wants they can just pull of to the side of the track to let another rider/group through, if a group of riders is trying to get around a rider make sure the rider being taken knows there are multiple riders coming past them.
Yes I will also be putting up km counters, again I will do that the day before the event for those of you who find them helpful, they just tend to make me groan at the beginning of each lap!
That is all for now,
I will be putting a schedual of the Final Race Day Format Up Top later today or tomorrow for you all.
We have been putting a lot of thought and effort into this event and we are very excited about it as we think it is going to be a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing you all out there next Sunday!

Hi, I've just moved to
Hi,
I've just moved to Perth this last week, and will be racing the 6 hour, if I can get over this cold I seemed to have picked up. Anyway, can anyone tell me what the climbs are like on the course? Are they short sharp pinches or longer gentle climbs? I need to make a decision on what bike to pull out of the shipping container when it arrives and before everything goes into storage.
Thanks Duncan
climbs
The climbs aren't too bad. There is basically four climbs. One at the start - quite gentle. Then about 3km in you get the steepest climb - maybe 300m long. This will certainly get the heart rate up, but most people should be able to get up it. Then about 5km there is a gentle fireroad climb that is maybe 1 - 1.5 km long. Finally near the end there is some climbing in the singletrack. Not too steep or long really, but it does catch you out as you are getting a bit more tired by this stage.
I did the course on my xc hardtail this weekend, which was faster than my xc duallie, especially up the climbs. However it was much harsher on my back, which over four or five laps would probably be quite painful. So I will be riding my duallie at the race.
What a great course! This
What a great course! This is by far the best track at Jarrahdale in years. It has all the best bits with minimal climbing and great single track, enough fire road to catch your breath and best of all the pines!
Tomness I reckon those climbs are a bit shorter than you have said. I think they aren't too difficult but ask me after the race and I may think they are a bit longer and harder.
Well done to Chris and Steph from Riders Choice.
See you all down there.
Drinks and food during race.
Being an enduro newbie there are a few questions that spring to mind for a solo rider.
I guess there is a feed table but is there a designated area to refill hydration packs and food? Are we allowed to stop for this and if so how long? And finally, are there solo riders looking to finish in achievement rather than in a competive nature?
I guess I will find out on Sunday but the first questions are crucial for prep!
Thanks,
BJ
solo riders to finish for achievement
I imagine there are more than just a few solo riders who are in it for the fun not first place!! I am one!! It will be fun.
cheers, jaceyh
Solo Fun!
Eating & Drinking enough during an endurance event is crucial and it does take a bit of practice to know what works for you, a lot of mountain biking magazines have good articles on this topic.
For your first attempt being well prepared is essential.
Remember your Fluid & Food intake is your fuel to keep you going, if you run out of energy you've run out of fuel, there are also all sorts of absorption issues over sustained periods of exercise which I am not going to go into now. But it is most important to eat & drink as much as possible in the morning before the event and in the first half of the event because it is likely that you will not want to eat or drink much towards the end.
There will be a 'SOLO RIDER'S PIT STOP AREA'.
You can set yourself up here and leave anything you might need over the 6 hours in the area.
I usually have a large plastic container filled with lots of spare drinks, some electorlyte based & some glucose or sugar based (variety is good), a couple of plain water bottles is also a great idea.
I also have a few different food snacks which I can pick up & eat easily, fruit cake is good, protein bars, some people like salty chips, vegemite sandwiches, cold pasta, bananas...it is really individual as to what you are going to feel like eating and everyone has their own recipe.
Finally I have some tools and any spares I might need as the bikes also do a lot of work for you over the 6 hours.
The Solo Ride is Fantastic no matter where you finish you will have acheived a great feat of endurance for being out there for 5-6 hour!

water supply
hi, me and my mate are staying in cottages near by and i was wondering if there was going to be a water tank or some source of drinkable water for riders? as we are riding from the cottages we are unable to carry a large amount of water. we will bring hyrda packs and a couple of water bottle but incase of dehydration were curious to whether there was a usable water source....cheers.
"some well good riders"
Is there going to be a way
Is there going to be a way of telling if riders are teams or solo.
sure
the riders with their eyes bugging out gasping for breath are the solo riders.
Coloured TAGS
I will easily be able to tell you are doing a SOLO ride Rubes!
For everyone else I have made colour coded tags for the event.
WHITE TAGS = SOLO RIDERS
BLUE TAGS = DUO RIDERS
YELLOW TAGS = TRIO RIDERS
ALL Tags will go around your Bike SEAT POSTS
Teams will swap their tags from Seat Post to Seat Post in the Team Transition Zone
WATER SUPPLY
There is no drinking water supplied at Jarradale
The permanent toilet block only has water not recommended for drinking
Everyone needs to bring with them enough water/drinks & food for their day in the dirt

The fire fighters will be supplying a sausage sizzle and will sell soft drink, powerade and bottled water. Still bring enough of your own to ease the pressure.

Do the teams change rider after every lap?
Some mates are looking at going in it and are curious.
One other, when they stop the race at the six hour mark how do they actually stop? eg. do they let every body complete the lap their on?
Cant wait for Sunday
Scott
We are following the same
We are following the same rules as the 12hr:
You do not have to change riders after every lap nor does each rider have to do the same number of laps - you can mix and match as suits each team members capabilities.
Timing will stop at 4pm sharp, if you still out on course and come in after 4pm your lap will not be recorded. In other words it is how many laps you can get done within 6 hours. Thus it will be important to keep track of your lap time as you need to be able to work out if on the last lap you will be able to make it back by 4pm.
timing cutoff
Or 4:02 sharp, for teams.
Nice track..
Had it all to myself for 3hrs today....... Ah, serenity!!!
Well done to all involved with the result a good flowing track. Good long fire roady bits for the fast guys to pass me!
However, I agree with the post earlier about some of the log overs. I just did not know what was on the other side!!! Lucky I did a recce for Sunday then eh..!
Regards
Everybody competing should
Everybody competing should have done at least one practice lap (I've only done one and that just isn't enough!). If people are unsure about an obstacle they should stop and ahve a few goes at it to feel comfortable with how they will approach it in the event.
I can't wait!
