I will be marking the course

I will be marking the course first thing Saturday morning. It will most likely follow the same path as last year.

Does anyone have any suggestions of possible things they would love to see in it or not in it. You have until Friday night to make your suggestions. Whether I listen will be another matter :)

The folliwng sponsors have

The folliwng sponsors have signed on to make this a huge event!

SRAM will be the major sponsor and are providing a great range of product prizes to give out

CHARGE Bikes - we will have a great range of the funky Charge bikes out on display as well as a CHARGE DUSTER steel frame mountain bike frame to be won! This prize will be open to all and not the fastest riders so enter the race for your chance to win. Dave and Dan will have their Charge Dusters on display so you can get an idea of just how nice these bikes are. Dave's weighs in at less than 11kgs for a steel frame mtb bike!

BOOTLEG BREWERY - Michael Brookes has come to the party once again and will have a swag of the good oil with him. Bootleg is a boutique brewery in Margaret River that is a must stop location on any visit to the region. I was down there over summer and had a great meal and plenty of great beer!

We will also have our Giant Anthem and Yeti 575 test bikes available for a spin around the test track that will be set up.

AWESOME !

Looking forward to it, thanks to the new sponsors jumping on board.

What colour are the new arrows ?

You won't be able to miss

You won't be able to miss them. They are green with Wembley Cycles and SRAM written on them in really big letters. I will also do my best to clean up any other arrows or mess out there to make it completely straihgt forward.

cool

Waheeeeeeeeee! Cantwaitcantwaitcantwaitcantwait :)

If you need any help tomorrow aft, i'm cool to be there.

Now, everyone send dry weather vibes to the sun! :)

Thanks

Thanks for the offers of help but I haven't been on the computer since Friday morning.

The course is now marked. It is exactly the same as last year and hopefully we will get out there and do a bit of drainage work to fix a few of the puddles. Otherwise it looks pretty good.

I must hold the record for the slowest lap of the track at 4hrs 15 minutes!! And I didn't even get wet on a day like today!

I didn't get a chance to measure the track but it is the same as last year and the transition will take place in the same spot as last year. The best thing about this is you will be able to compare your times to last year and see if you are improving.

Good weather for a practice

Good weather for a practice this weekend
also there is an event on facebook for this, if you are into that sort of thing

need a team mate

If anyone is doing this race for fun and wants a team mate then I would be happy to help out. Medium pace rider wanting to do it for a laugh

Good job marking John

My newbie mtb mate went down and rode the course today, only been on a mountain bike a handful of times, first time at Jarrahdale and he was riding by himself. He loved it, and had no trouble following the course. If a first timer can do it on their own, then I reckon you got it right.

.

Hey Steveo
I may need a team mate, I would prefer to do it 2 up. Just waiting on confirmation that my GF is pulling out. I will find out for sure this week and let you know on the wknd. PM sent.

the course looks unreal!

hey crew, congrats to John and anyone else involved in the course layout. it is great. i have entered the event (my first ever and i am the wrong side of 40) I went for a blast on it today and it was sensational. no water anywhere, perfect surface. do you have any idea what a decent lap time is for middle age weekend warriors :-)
thanks again
Lyndon

Look in the 2008 results on this webpage and you will see all the results from last year.

COURSE MARKING
It would seem some people are getting lost and missing two parts of the 6 hour course. I will add extra marking this weekend. When you clim gup the main climb and then take a left you need to continue down the hill on the right hand side of the log role and you will see antoher arrow on a tree pointing down hill.

I will also have a map up tomorrow hopefully so that you can understand it better. Also attached above is a kml file to open up in Google Earth that shows last years track which is exactly the same.

Sandbagger

Give it up Lyndon, I know about all your secret training. Wrong side of 40! Please.

last years times

thanks for that John, Sub 50 minutes per lap last year! no way! and top 5 doing it in sub 40 minutes for 6 hours! you guys are legends one and all. i think i am going to get a rude awakening! no more icecream for me.
going down there again on saturday if anyone wants a lift, can fit 3 more bikes in trailer.
name your sources Dave!
thanks

Loop order

The main thing to be aware of is the order of the loops.

When going up from the main carpark and following through the first 50 meters of single track and turning RIGHT to the long haul along the fire road - you are in fact starting the SECOND loop.

The start of the race (last year - and I assume this year), will be as if you had turned LEFT at that first road.

The traditional thrash through the pines that completes the 12 hr thus become something just over half way in the six hour.

BTW I love the "twice through the crowd" format that this give - similar to the 4 hr at the goat farm . . . . .

Duo and Trio Ride Times

Having not ridden in an enduro event before I was wondering what the go is when it comes to riding times for duo and trio teams. Does each rider have to ride a set time each or can you "tag out" at will?

each rider must complete

each rider must complete full laps before tagging out. Each rider can ride as many or as few laps as possible but all the changes need to take place at the start/finish area of the track.

I will put up a few more arrows near the start finish which is where Yarg has described above.

Also there is a mtb orienteering event on at Langford Park on this Sunday (12th) so you should steer clear to give them plenty of room or join in. It can actually be pretty good fun and a different way of discovering all the trails at Jarrahdale. The MTBO guys will provide you with a few pointers before you start and are a friendly bunch. Your mtb skills and possible trail knowledge might give you an advantage over their naviagation skills.

MTBO Keirin

John
I heard of one MTBO rider who was a track cyling keirin racer facing retirement.
Rumour has it that he was so insanely competitive whilst riding MTBO that he would "hip & shoulder" bump others off the trail into the bush if they looked like getting past him, keirin style, for which he drew much scorn from the otherwise placid MTBO fraternity and was banished to solo rides around Kings Park....
Oh, hang on a minute.......

Good work with the 6Hr Course and all the other stuff you do John.
Wish I could joing you for what has been the best race of the season the past few years.
Cheers

Rego on the day?

Is ok to rego on the day? I'm reluctant to give details over the net at the moment! Seeing as my paypal account got hacked.

There will be an extra fee

There will be an extra fee for entering on the day.

No paypal used here. My other advice would be to use a Mac. :)

Thanks for the advice ....it

Thanks for the advice ....it was paypal themselves that got hacked
what time is rego going to be starting from on the day?

Can I buy a number plate on the day

Hi, great course, got a little lost after the first big climb. You need to stay left as you go down. Other than that, really looking forward to a great day. As per the subject, can me and my team mate buy a number plate on the day or before hand. We entered through the online system. Very simple and safe with a credit card.

no cost for number plates

no cost for number plates for this event you will be allocated a number plate on the day according to the category that you enter.

I will add a few more arrows on Saturday morning and also put up some more info on the web at some point on Friday including a map of the transition area.

JARRAHDALE IS HAPPENING

Rode the 6Hr Course the other morning, it was Sooooo Much Fun and there were heaps of people out getting tuned for this great event!!!

Just a word of warning if you have not registered already do it early, ie NOW, there are still some teething problems with in the new on-line MTBA registration system, we are the national guinea pigs for the system and I still can not access my account and thus can't yet enter after five days and numerous e-mails. So get on-line and get your entry sorted out now to save any last minute stress.

Also on Sunday Morning there is a MTB Orienteering Event being held at Jarrahdale, the event is on from 9am til 1pm so if you are planning on practicing the Course Sunday morning please be aware that this event is on, they have right of way on the trails during the event and they could be riding in any direction and crossing anywhere while looking at a map at the same time, so take care.

Oh and just so I don't upset the rain gods this year... Let it Rain, Let it Rain, Let it Rain on the DAY!!!
(trying a bit of reverse pysch this year as desperately hoping the rain would stop definitely did not work last year)

For those of you are members

For those of you are members of the club and have been having trouble registering for the race it should now be fixed especially if you have just renewed your membership.

So get online again and let me know if you have anymore issues as it is a new system I am happy to help guide people through any probelms.

Reverse Jinx

In the spirit of Steph's reverse jinx you should all go to your local shop and buy a set of replacement brake pads for your bike. Anybody who raced in the 6 Hour last year will recall hearing the squeeling of brake pads worn down to bare metal after a few hours in the rain.

Lots of Brake Pads Required

I was just thinking earlier today, must get some spare brake pads to take along next weekend, I agree if every rider brings a spare set with them no one will need them!!

Regardless of what the conditions are going to be on the day, it is going to be another sensational six hour, I mean we could get a freak snow at Jarrahdale this year and you wouldn't want to miss that!

Insurance

Hi all, apologies if I've overlooked an obvious answer to this elsewhere, but for those of us not members of MTBA I believe we need to organise a day license to cover insurance?

Can we just pay for this on the day like we did at the Karri Cup or is there somewhere I should sort it out in advance?

If you enter online you can

If you enter online you can pay the day licence on line. It is all part of the one online entry process.

AS far as insurance goes. The best way to be covered for yourself is to be an MTBA member.

As for the brake pads we will have heaps of pads if it rains. The rain just adds to the fun!!!!

kids race?

hi John

is there going to be a kids race?

thx

Yes. I haven't added it to

Yes. I haven't added it to the pre rego list but will still hold it the same as last year.

I am about to put up an info sheet wth all info and maps of the village and course.

bennysthe1's picture

need help ?

Due to an injury not bloody healing fast enough I wont be racing the 6hr so if you need a hand let me know. I have a trailer and can help on the day.

Hoops's picture

More rego troubles..

OK so I've registered a duo team and added my own details, and it let me continue to payment etc without adding my co-rider's details, so I assumed he'd be able to add them later. But there doesn't seem to be any facility for going back to add people to an existing team - any ideas?

(The team is all paid for but neither of us are MTBA members so he still needs to pay his $15 MTBA day license.)

Get well soon' to those chaps that really messed them selves up out there!!

hail

First, a huge thanks to the Wembley Cycles dudes for organizing the event. Steph, for the track!

To all those that hurt themselves, you'll heal & get back on yer bike soon enough. For those that helped them out, thanks!

Tons of fun. I'd never ridden in hail before! Just when you thought the trail you'd trained on was going to be easy, it turned its back on you. I have done tons of interval sessions, hill rides etc to get myself fit but it's now the mental game I need to work on.

Thanks again for a great day!

I concur

Well done to everyone that organised this event. Every year the race seems to get bigger and better, and the organisation just goes up a notch. Truly impressive effort. Big thanks to all.

Race was awesome fun, track was great and all the competitors that I came across were very friendly.

I also hope all those that have injured themselves rest and heal well, and get back on 2 wheels soon.
