Hi everyone I just got this through from Elisa at DEC. The area affected is best described as from the top of the whore to the Munda Biddi near the observatory. Please keep clear for at least the next week. DEC have put up signs saying the trail is closed so please follow their instructions. You will be helping the cause.
Hi John
We have conducted a number of prescribed burns in the Kalamunda and Mundaring area recently and have had a few issues with cyclists ignoring the hazard tape and signage that has been installed across tracks because of the burn.
Many people are under the impression that once a fire is out, the area is safe again. Actually, this is not the case. Logs can burn for a long time after a fire and branches and trees can fall down well after a fire is out. The ground can also remain hot for many days after. There is a real potential for serious injury in these areas. Therefore, once a burn has been conducted, we often leave tracks closed for a week or so after to allow us to complete safety checks and to let the area settle down.
Cyclists are certainly not the only ones who ignore the signs and I am not trying to single them out, but it in the interest of keeping people safe, it would be great if you could add something on your website or forum just to remind people to be mindful of their safety.
Thanks
Elisa

There will be a prescibed burn at the Pile rd trails this spring as well.
After the burn there will be some organised trail maintenance days.
