WTB: small XC bike

G'day all - wanted to pickup an XC style bike for my g/f to ride around the city/easy trails. Budget of around $400, and frame size small (she's 5'7").
Let us know if you have anything around - would rather buy something used but in good condition rather than some generic kmart/bike shop bike.
