Hey there
I'm moving to Perth from Christchurch, NZ in a few months. I decided I can't take the cold weather anymore. I want to get out riding but it's always raining.
I'm moving to Casuarina, just outside of Perth, I was wondering how much riding there is around this area, say within an hours drive or so? I ride downhill and freeride and I prefer to keep my heavy steel bike away from flatish trails. In Christchurch we were quite spoiled, we could drive to the top of the hill, descend some 350 vertical meters down very nice tracks and get picked up by the car and taken straight back up again. Is this possible anywhere near Perth?

No
Sorry mate, you won't find anything 350m high around Perth.
The scarp behind Perth is only about 220-250 metres above the plain, which limits the downhil oportunities. But the DH guys still seem to be having fun.
BTW Casuarina is dead flat!
..
Yeh casurina's pretty flat and sandy, don't stress your not to far from dwellingup, some of the best Dh tracks and xc riding in the state.
Shuttles are no drama's, and it would be just under an hour away.
Cheers Housey..........

Thanks guys. Just under an hour away, that sounds fine. Right now it's probably 40 mins drive for me here anyway, except I can't bike very often cause a. I can't afford the fuel and b. I can't afford to keep my bike in good order and c. it's too damn wet and cold!
I'll be back on the forum early next year organising to join PMBC and hopefully to organise a ride to get to know some of you too.
