Urgent Survey closes 18 July 2008

Please every one take this opportunity to fill in the survey.

There was a huge amount of response to stumpcrashers comments and also the Gungin vandalism and illegal trails ect, so here is your chance tell the authorities and make them take action due to the overwhelming response they get from mountain bikers like you.
Tell every one that rides a mountain bike to respond to the survey.

I KNOW WHAT I WANT! sweet single track, technical trail features, sign posted trails, trail heads, jumps, drop offs, log roll overs, north shore, link trails, A lines and B lines, graded trails, sustainable trails, regular maintenance and any thing else you think off.

I can envisage a huge trail network between Kalamunda, Mundaring, Pickering Brook and beyond and don't forget John Forrest NP. Though there is a lot of good trails for those in the know the area is really lacking quality mountain bike trails and trail markers. On the survey you can suggest local government, state government and DEC provide funding to set up a group that can employ people to build and maintain trails.
Am I dreaming? Hope Not.

See you out there surfing the hills.

Also available on the Shire of Mundaring website.
I also left some copies of the survey at Kalamunda cycles.

I've been invloved in a small way in Advocacy in other states, is there any chance that someone can post a form letter or suggested reccomendations if there are particular points the MTB community would be advised to focus on?

I'll support it but my support is more useful if I've received feedback from a trusted member of the MTB community who knows the politics so the masses like me can be informed on the best way focus their feedback to council?

OK, Here is my

OK,
Here is my feedback:
8. In your opinion what would be required to improve your trails experience?

Legal Mountain Bike Specific Trails and Shared use trails. Technically challenging point to point trails to engage the mountain bike community and deter people from using the extensive network of illegal trails which are impossible to effectively police. Trails like the Kep and Munda Biddi aren't what the riding community is looking for and tracks such as "The Goat Farm" and "Turner Hill" should be used as examples of what the riding community want.

Comments :
www.imba.com has lots of info about sustainable trail design. Joey Klein from IMBA has been over recently with all the information to create sustainable, environmentally sensitive and fun tracks for all users. Mitcham City council has developed their own trail network in South Australia, Local Councils/Shires need to be progressive on this issue. Nick Bowman at Mitcham City Council on 08 8372 8888 would be able to give the Shire of Kalamunda a great step up in letting them know of the resources currently available to Shires to work towards solutions that benefit all parties.

Feel free to copy and paste or create your own version. Stick it online here so others glean the best bits for a more effective feedback to the council.

Great idea Scratchy. I

Great idea Scratchy. I would be happy to see this go on every online survey that is put in. They would also appreciate that their is a unified group of mountain bikers out there that are prepared to be proactive on this issue.

Online survey

I just wanted to bump this comment, But i was also hoping someone from PMBC could put the 'online' survey link onto the home page.
Don't forget to fill it in!!

Thanks

Just a small change????

"........bike community and deter people from (using) the extensive network of illegal trails which are impossible to effectively police."

Nice work Scratchy, but maybe instead of (using), that word should read "increasing".

What's there is there and you can't tell me they're not hell fun to ride. Is it not easier just to put a lid on things as opposed to take things away, That is bound to drive the trail pixies even further underground. Of course it goes without saying what is already there would need to be refined and defined etc, but the majority of the existing "popular' trails have been around for some time and on the whole in pretty good knick.

Keep sending in those surveys......hopefully they'll get the message that mountain bikers are THE major users of our forrests and at the very least allow some of these trails to become dual use or better still, give West Australians a MTB trail network that is in touch with not only other countries but other states.
